Barry was the middle of three sons born in rural middle Tennessee. At the early age of 11, he believed and accepted that Jesus was “the only way, the truth, and the life.” But it wasn’t until he was in college did he begin to sort through his own sanctification. It was during his first job out of college at the age of 25 while working for Marriott International in Washington, D.C., that he joined the Mt. Vernon, VA chapter of Gideon’s. These older and more experienced men of faith, serving in a mix of church denominations, began to mentor and disciple Barry at a much deeper level. One, retired Colonel Bill McGinty who was a fighter pilot during WWII, served as the chapter president. He was a godly man with great integrity. There arose a special bond between he and Barry which made an eternal impact on Barry’s life for which Barry is forever grateful.
After moving to Orlando, FL to work for Walt Disney Resorts, Barry met his future wife, Dianne, at First Baptist Church Orlando. After getting married, they moved to Ft. Worth, TX where Barry received two Master of Arts’ degrees at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. One degree was in Marriage and Family Counseling while the other Religious Education. He received the President’s Merit Scholar award upon graduation from seminary. Following graduation, he worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor and started a counseling program at a church before eventually re-entering corporate work.
Barry has spent his career teaching, training, counseling, coaching and leading others. From 2019 to January 2022 he worked as the Vice President of Learning, Leadership and Organizational Development for the Atlantis Resort in Nassau, Bahamas. In his last corporate position prior to the Atlantis, he was with Wyndham Worldwide where he served as the VP Leadership Enrichment & Hospitality Training where he was responsible for developing the leadership skills of 1,400 leaders and providing operational and customer service training for 6,000 employees at 150 global resorts and contact centers.
Since leaving the corporate arena, he and Dianne have their own consulting firm called Business Momentum Group, Inc. Here, they continue to work with a variety of businesses and ministries from Coca-Cola to various church denominations and ministries.
With my calling, education and work experience, I am prepared and passionate about contributing to the kingdom of Christ by equipping our brother and sister leaders in Christ around the world. I believe that working with Equipping Leaders International is a great fit which allows me the opportunity to maximize my impact with other leaders for His kingdom.
Barry and Dianne have three sons and currently reside in metro Atlanta, Ga. As of 2022, they have been married for 31 years.
