Donald L. Mountan was raised in Baltimore, Maryland. His work experience includes the printing industry, real estate sales and freelance writing for two newspapers in addition to his work in the church. From 1966 to 1971 he served in the US Army. He obtained the rank of captain and is a decorated Vietnam veteran. Raised in a Presbyterian church, he became a Christian in 1968 during an Officers Christian Union home Bible study.
He is a 1976 graduate of Eastern College with a degree in Psychology and of holds a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in 1981. He is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Reformed Theological Seminary focusing on equipping national church leaders.
In the early 70′s, he was ordained a ruling elder and in 1981 as a teaching elder in the P.C.A.* He led the way in planting Harvester Presbyterian Church, in Douglasville, Georgia in 1981 and the start of Harvester Christian Academy in 1986. In 1997, he also became the founding pastor of New Life Presbyterian Church, P.C.A. in Clermont, Florida.
Rev. Mountan has provided leadership in his denomination and community. In addition to serving on a number of denominational committees, he served five years as Stated Clerk of Central Florida Presbytery. Mountan was the founding Board President for the Clermont Neighborhood Center, Inc., which assisted over twelve hundred needy persons every month. He has also chaired the Spiritual Aims committee for the Kiwanis Club of South Lake County and served as President of both Douglasville and South Lake Ministerial Fellowships.
Rev. Mountan made his first trip to Africa in 2000 with Equipping Pastors International. He joined EPI full-time in October 2001 and served as Executive Director from 2005 to 2008. Sensing an additional need for training strategic Christian leaders outside the institutional church as well as inside, Mountan and others founded Equipping Leaders International Inc. in late 2008. Don continues to serve as a Trustee of the Board and on the faculty as a Project Director.
Mountan and his wife have helped fund and conduct conferences in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Liberia and Ghana in Africa and in four states in India, teaching over 3,000 leaders representing over 2,000,000 confessing believers among several Christian denominations.
Merril Mountan was raised in Baltimore Maryland. She was not raised in church, but became a Christian in 1968 at the same Officer’s Christian Union Bible study as her husband. Her work experience includes various administrative and clerical positions and six years as a radio announcer for two Christian radio stations.
Merril is a highly relational person, a gifted counselor, often ministering behind the scenes on a one on one basis. In addition, she is a gifted instructor of women and conference speaker. She has made several trips with her husband to Africa to teach women leaders.
Merril is a Certified Christian Life Coach.
The Mountans have been married 50 years, have two believing children, and five grandchildren.
*PCA is a conservative branch of the Presbyterian tradition, committed to the Bible as the objective word of God, to Christ as the Son of God and only Savior and to fulfilling Christ’s command to “make disciples of all nations.”
